An employer in Slovakia may only employ a third-country national who holds a work permit and a temporary residence permit for employment. Both have to be in place. Our job on the Pakistan side is to keep the file clean and to tell you early whether it is worth opening.
How the Slovak steps run
- Labour Office. The work permit is granted by the relevant Labour Office on the employer's written request. There is no legal right to a work permit, so the Office can refuse.
- Vacancy window. Under the procedure streamlined in July 2024, the employer can ask to fill a vacancy 20 working days after reporting it. The Labour Office then decides within 15 working days.
- Residence. Once consent is given, the worker applies for temporary residence for employment. The Police Department decides, normally within 60 days. We confirm the start date for each file against that decision.
Seasonal work
Since January 2025, Slovakia has a seasonal work contract of up to 520 hours a year, with reduced social contributions. The seasonal scope covers all hospitality jobs. We confirm which route applies to a seasonal role before we open a file.
What we check before a file opens
- The Slovak employer has a registered office in Slovakia, which the route requires.
- The trade as it will be named in the Slovak filing, not only the English job title.
- Headcount, city of work, housing, and the target month.
- Whether the vacancy has already been reported to the Labour Office, and its reference if so.
What we do on the Pakistan side
BEOE protectorate clearance, PakSoftSkills registration, medicals, a NAVTTC-approved trade test where the trade needs one, and police clearance. A candidate who fails a medical or a trade test is replaced at no sourcing fee, as on our other corridors.
What we will not promise
A start date or a headcount before the Labour Office and the Police Department have decided. We do not bill the employer for sourcing. Host-country filings stay with the employer for the life of the file.
What changed in July 2026
Amendments effective 15 July 2026 to the Foreign Residence Act and the Employment Services Act changed the rules for workers on a national visa. A third-country national on a national visa who applies for a temporary residence permit for employment must keep working in the position for which the work authorisation was first granted. Employers may keep an affected worker in the same position while the renewal is pending, until 15 July 2027 in the cases the summary describes.
The source is a law-firm summary. We confirm the transitional wording with the Ministry before relying on it for a file.
FAQ
Can you supply Pakistani workers to Slovakia every month?
No. We open a Slovak file only after the permit route for that trade is confirmed.
Is sourcing billed?
No.
What should I send?
Company name and Slovak registered office, city, trade, headcount, target month, and the vacancy reference if one exists.
Which sources is this page based on?
The Slovak Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family's information for foreigners, and the OECD International Migration Outlook 2025 (Slovak Republic). Both are linked below. The rules change, so we re-check them before each file.
